Gear Optimizer Public Beta Two complimentary My Inventory searches
Gear Optimizer is now in Public Beta. Eligible signed-in accounts include 2 complimentary Single General searches using My Gear Inventory.
Public Beta
Gear Optimizer
Find the best gear for one general, or optimize several generals by priority without reusing limited gear.
Civilization gear
My Gear Inventory
Gear Optimizer assumes owned gear is available unless you mark it Equipped. An Equipped Civilization piece is currently equipped on a general and unavailable to future Gear Optimizer searches. If you rely on Civilization gear on your Defense General, such as Koryo gear, or on Subordinate City Mayors for debuffs, mark those pieces Equipped. Equipped gear remains recorded as owned but will not be used in recommended loadouts. No inventory saved yet.

About Gear Optimizer
What can Gear Optimizer do?
Gear Optimizer helps you decide where your gear will do the most good.
You can use it to find the strongest loadout for one Battle General, distribute limited Civilization gear across several Battle Generals, optimize one Subordinate City Mayor, or distribute debuff gear across multiple Mayors.
You do not need a large Civilization gear collection to use it. Gear Optimizer automatically includes eligible crafted gear and can also consider new Civilization pieces you are willing to craft.
The strongest loadout is not always the six pieces with the largest individual buff numbers. Gear Optimizer compares complete six-piece combinations, including relevant buffs and debuffs, set bonuses, refines where applicable, and the gear you actually have available.
Gear Optimizer is currently in Public Beta while we continue refining search performance and the user experience.
After applying an optimized loadout to a general, you can view and manage that build through My Tavern and Build Manager.
Search Controls
The controls at the top of Gear Optimizer define what you want to optimize and how the search should be performed.
1. Battle General or Subordinate City Mayor
Start by choosing what you want to equip.
Battle General searches optimize gear for a general you use in combat.
Subordinate City Mayor searches optimize debuff gear for a Mayor.
The controls that follow adjust depending on which type of search you choose.
2. Search Mode
One General and Multiple Generals
One General and Multiple Generals use the same optimization logic, so the best loadout for each general is the same either way. Multiple Generals is simply a more efficient way to optimize several generals in one search.
For Multiple Generals, list your generals in order of importance. Gear Optimizer equips the first general, then finds the best loadout for each remaining general using the gear that is still available.
A One General search can show up to five recommended loadouts, while Multiple Generals returns one recommended loadout for each general.
You can search up to six generals.
Equipped Civilization gear is unavailable to every general. Regular crafted gear remains available because multiple copies can be made.
One Mayor and Multiple Mayors
One Mayor searches for the strongest available debuff loadout for a single Subordinate City Mayor. A Certified result means Gear Optimizer has confirmed it as the strongest available loadout for that Mayor under the selected settings.
Multiple Mayors distributes your available gear across several Mayors.
Because Multiple Mayors is optimizing the group as a whole, an individual Mayor’s recommended loadout may not be the Certified strongest loadout that Mayor would receive in a One Mayor search.
Multiple Mayors can optimize gear across up to 12 Mayors.
3. Gear Pool
My Gear Inventory
Use My Gear Inventory when you want Gear Optimizer to work with the Civilization gear you actually own.
Add your owned Civilization pieces at their current star levels.
If there is gear you own but are not willing to move, mark it Equipped. Equipped gear remains part of your inventory, but Gear Optimizer will not use it in a recommended loadout or treat it as an unowned piece that can be crafted again.
This is useful for gear you need to keep on a Defense General, Subordinate City Mayor, Battle General, or anywhere else you do not want the optimizer to move it.
If you equip a recommended loadout onto a general through Evony War Room, those pieces are automatically marked Equipped in My Gear Inventory.
Best-in-Game
Use Best-in-Game when you want to see the strongest possible loadout without limiting the search to your own inventory.
Best-in-Game searches the full available gear pool, with Civilization gear calculated at 10★.
This can also help show which pieces may be worth working toward.
4. Optimization Goal
For Battle General searches, choose what you mean by the “best” loadout.
Highest Damage
Highest Damage ranks loadouts by modeled damage dealt.
The loadout that produces the most damage may also take more losses. Highest Damage is focused on how much damage the march can deal, not on producing the best exchange.
Efficiency
Efficiency compares enemy troops killed with your own modeled losses.
A higher Efficiency Ratio represents a better modeled PvP point exchange.
An efficient loadout may kill fewer enemy troops than the Highest Damage result while losing far fewer of its own troops.
In simple terms:
Highest Damage: How much damage can I deal?
Efficiency: How well can I trade my losses for enemy losses?
5. Maximum New Conquest and Supreme Pieces
When using My Gear Inventory, Gear Optimizer can also consider new Civilization gear.
You can choose the maximum number of new Conquest and Supreme pieces you are willing to craft.
These limits apply across Battle General and Mayor searches, including both single and multiple search modes.
Newly crafted Civilization pieces are calculated at 5★.
This lets you tell Gear Optimizer how much new Civilization gear you are actually willing to make rather than having it recommend an unrealistic number of new pieces.
6. Number of Loadouts
For a One General search, you can choose how many recommended loadouts you want to see, up to five.
Showing several loadouts can be useful when the mathematically strongest result uses a piece you would rather keep somewhere else. The additional recommendations let you see other high-performing options without running another search.
Multiple Generals returns one recommended loadout for each general.
Mayor searches return one recommended loadout for each Mayor being optimized.
7. Troop Class, Role, and Opponent Class
For a Battle General search, choose:
- the Troop Class you are equipping;
- the Role in which the general will be used; and
- the Opponent Class you expect to fight.
These selections determine the battle conditions Gear Optimizer uses when comparing loadouts.
Gear that performs best for one troop class, role, or opponent may not be the strongest choice under different conditions.
8. Mayor Debuff Priorities
For a Mayor search, choose the enemy troop debuffs that matter most to you and assign each one a priority:
- Highest — considered first
- Important — considered second
- Secondary — considered third
Use these levels to tell Gear Optimizer which debuffs matter most to your build. Debuffs assigned to the same level are treated as having the same priority.
For One Mayor, Gear Optimizer uses those priorities to find the strongest available loadout for that Mayor. A Certified result means it has verified the strongest available loadout under those selections.
For Multiple Mayors, your priority levels guide how gear is distributed across the entire group.
Priority concentrates on the debuffs you selected, following the Highest → Important → Secondary order.
Balanced begins with those same priorities, then also considers the remaining debuffs when distributing gear across the Mayors to create a more complete overall set of loadouts.
Because Multiple Mayors is optimizing a shared gear inventory across the group, an individual Mayor may not receive the same Certified loadout that Mayor would receive in a One Mayor search.
How Gear Optimizer Compares Gear
Crafted gear is already included
You do not need to enter regular crafted gear into My Gear Inventory.
Gear Optimizer automatically includes eligible gear from these sets:
- Dragon
- Ares
- Achaemenidae
- Imperial
- Parthian
- Apollo
- Asura
This gear is treated as unlimited because multiple copies of the same piece can be crafted.
Civilization gear is different. Civilization pieces are tracked individually because Gear Optimizer needs to know which pieces you own, their star levels, which ones are Equipped, and how many new pieces you are willing to craft.
More than just buff numbers
Gear Optimizer compares the complete six-piece loadout, not just the largest individual buff numbers.
The calculations include gear buffs, relevant debuffs, gear set bonuses, and refines.
This is important because gear normally thought of as “debuff gear” can sometimes make a stronger offensive march.
The piece that looks strongest by itself is not always part of the strongest complete loadout.
Refines
You do not need to enter the refines currently on your gear.
For comparison purposes, Gear Optimizer evaluates each piece as if it were fully percentage-refined for the troop class being searched. This keeps the comparison on a level playing field, even though real player refines will vary and may not be fully maxed.
- Weapon and Ring: ATK
- Helmet and Legs: HP
- Armor and Boots: DEF
Four maximum percentage refine lines are used on each piece based on the refine limit for that type of gear.
Flat refines are not included.
This lets Gear Optimizer compare the potential of the gear itself rather than favoring a piece simply because it happens to have better refines today.
Siege Range
For all Siege vs Siege searches, Gear Optimizer assumes the opposing siege march has a 15% Siege Machine Range bonus from gear. Siege loadouts are evaluated against that same assumption when comparing gear combinations.
Understanding the Results
Each recommended Battle General loadout includes modeled battle results to help you compare your options.
Potential Kills estimates enemy troop losses.
Estimated Losses estimates your own troop losses.
Efficiency Ratio is Potential Kills divided by Estimated Losses. A higher ratio represents a better modeled PvP point exchange.
These values are designed to compare loadouts under the same conditions.
They are modeled estimates, not a prediction or promise of exactly what will happen in a real Evony battle.
What does Certified mean?
When a result method shows Certified, Gear Optimizer has verified that no eligible gear combination scores better under that method and its search settings.
The optimizer may safely eliminate combinations that cannot affect the answer, but it does not sacrifice exactness by simply sampling the search space.
Certified always describes the specific result method carrying the badge.
A One Mayor result can also be Certified as the strongest available loadout under its selected debuff priorities.
Multiple Mayor results are group-optimization recommendations and are not individually Certified in the same way.
Search Library
Your completed searches are saved automatically in the Search Library, separated into Battle General and Subordinate City Mayor searches.
Opening an existing Library result lets you review it again without repeating the original optimization or spending additional Search Credits.
The Library keeps up to 25 searches. If there is a search you want to keep permanently, click the star to save it.
You can permanently save up to 20 starred searches.
Compare Loadouts
You can compare any recommended loadout from any search result with the gear you are currently using.
Open the recommended loadout, scroll to the bottom, and click Compare With Your Loadout. Gear Optimizer will run both loadouts through the same model and show the differences in Potential Kills, Estimated Losses, and Efficiency.
This is especially useful when a recommended loadout looks unexpected and you want to see why Gear Optimizer selected it.
Gear Optimizer FAQ
What gear should I put in My Gear Inventory?
Add the Civilization gear you actually own and enter its current star level.
You do not need to enter Dragon, Ares, Achaemenidae, Imperial, Parthian, Apollo, or Asura gear. Eligible regular crafted gear is automatically included.
What does Equipped mean?
Equipped means:
I own this piece, but Gear Optimizer may not use it.
The piece remains recorded as owned but is excluded from My Gear Inventory searches.
Use Equipped for gear you need to keep on your Defense General, Subordinate City Mayors, Battle Generals, or anywhere else you do not want Gear Optimizer to move it.
Can Gear Optimizer recommend crafting an Equipped piece?
No.
Equipped gear is still recognized as owned. Gear Optimizer will not use the Equipped copy and will not treat it as an unowned piece that can simply be crafted again.
What happens if I leave a Civilization piece I own out of My Gear Inventory?
Gear Optimizer may believe you do not own it.
If the piece is eligible and your Conquest or Supreme crafting limit allows it, the optimizer may recommend it as a new 5★ craft.
For that reason, it is better to enter the Civilization gear you own and use Equipped for anything you are not willing to move.
Does Gear Optimizer include debuffs and set bonuses?
Yes.
Relevant gear debuffs and gear set bonuses are included when complete loadouts are compared.
That is one reason the strongest combination may not be obvious just by comparing the positive buffs on individual pieces.
How does Gear Optimizer handle refines?
You do not need to enter your current refines.
For comparison purposes, Gear Optimizer evaluates each piece as if it were fully percentage-refined for the troop class being searched. This keeps the comparison on a level playing field, even though real player refines will vary and may not be fully maxed.
- Weapon and Ring use ATK.
- Helmet and Legs use HP.
- Armor and Boots use DEF.
Flat refines are not included.
How does Gear Optimizer handle Siege Range?
For every Siege vs Siege calculation, Gear Optimizer assumes the opponent has a 15% Siege Machine Range bonus from gear. The same assumption is used for every loadout so Siege gear combinations can be compared under consistent conditions.
What is the difference between My Gear Inventory and Best-in-Game?
My Gear Inventory asks:
What is the best loadout I can make from the Civilization gear I own and the amount of new Civilization gear I am willing to craft?
Owned pieces use their actual star levels. New craftable Civilization pieces are calculated at 5★.
Best-in-Game asks:
What is the strongest possible loadout using the full available gear pool?
Best-in-Game evaluates Civilization gear at 10★.
Can the same gear be used for more than one Multiple Generals search?
It depends on the type of gear.
An individual Civilization piece can only be assigned once within the search. If an earlier general receives that piece, it is unavailable to the generals that follow.
Regular crafted gear such as Achaemenidae, Imperial, Apollo, or Asura is treated as unlimited because additional copies can be crafted.
Should I choose Highest Damage or Efficiency?
Highest Damage prioritizes the loadout that produces the strongest modeled offensive result against the selected opponent.
Efficiency looks at the tradeoff between enemy troops killed and your own estimated losses.
A Highest Damage loadout may kill more enemy troops while also taking substantially more losses. An Efficiency loadout may kill fewer troops but preserve far more of your own force.
My optimizer result looks wrong. How can I check it?
Use Compare With Your Loadout at the bottom of the optimizer result.
Choose the loadout you expected to perform better. Gear Optimizer will run both loadouts through the same battle model and compare their Potential Kills, Estimated Losses, and Efficiency.
This is especially useful when the optimizer recommends gear that seems unexpected. Gear Optimizer evaluates the complete six-piece loadout, including buffs, relevant debuffs, set bonuses, refines, and other modeled effects. A loadout with gear that appears weaker on its own can still perform better for the selected goal.
For Highest Damage, the recommended loadout may win because it kills more enemy troops even if it also takes more losses. For Efficiency, a different loadout may perform better because it achieves a stronger overall exchange.
If the result still appears incorrect after using Compare With Your Loadout, contact support@evonywarroom.com with the search details.
Are Potential Kills and Estimated Losses predictions of an actual battle?
No.
They are modeled estimates designed to help compare one gear combination with another under the same conditions.
Actual battles can include variables outside the Gear Optimizer search.
Why does Gear Optimizer use Search Credits?
Gear Optimizer searches can require substantial computing resources, especially when comparing large numbers of complete gear combinations across multiple generals.
Search Credits help cover the cost of running those searches and support the continued development and maintenance of Evony War Room.
See the available one-time packs on the Search Credit pricing page.
What does Certified mean?
Certified means Gear Optimizer verified that no eligible gear combination scores better under that result method and its settings.
The optimizer may eliminate combinations that exact-search rules prove cannot affect the answer. It does not simply sample a small group of combinations and call the best one Certified.
For Multiple Mayor searches, the optimizer is distributing a shared gear inventory across the full group, so those recommendations are not individually Certified in the same way as a One Mayor result.
